MARAGAO: A group of citizens of Margao on Tuesday accused the Margao Municipal Council for maintaining secrecy about the tender for door-to-door waste collection, in order to help the same favourite contractor, and demanded an extension to the time limit for submitting applications.
“Though a fresh tender process has been initiated, to our surprise, the notice for the e-tenders is dated February 16, but was uploaded only on February 20, with the last date for submission of applications being February 24. This move of conducting the tender process in secrecy is clearly an attempt to limit the participation of other waste management agencies,”alleged Shadow Council for Margao convenor Savio Coutinho.

It may be recalled that the waste collection system was under severe criticism for appointment of an agency without following codal formalities in October 2019, and granting it an arbitrary extension from November 2019 till date.
