The sole intention to get the land back was so that the effects of the increasingly mismanaged traffic could be reduced. However, the present council headed by BJP Mayor, Shubham Chodankar is clueless as to how to go ahead with it. He wants a fresh resolution to be passed on the issue before taking any other decision.
“Yes the Defense minister may have decided to shift the garage, but we will first need to pass a resolution before doing anything else. Plans for the parking area will come later but first we want the land,” Chodankar said, admitting that the CCP has not drafted any plan for the identified area. “A detailed plan will be worked out once the land is in our possession. But yes, it will be used for creating parking space,” he added.
The CCP intends to have a multi-storeyed parking facility for four-wheelers. A three stored building, in line with the one under-construction at Patto by the tourism department. However, in the absence of proper planning, there is every possibility that the area might be utilized for private development projects.
Parking has been a major issue haunting the capital city for decades. With nearly 7000 vehicles entering the city on a daily basis, apart from those within the city, parking has been a major challenge for the authorities.
