PANJIM: The Agassaim and Old Goa police teams have launched a hunt to trace the family of a newborn, whose mutiliated body was found on Siridao beach some days ago.
Several hospitals, including Goa Medical College and Hospital, have been approached by the local police to identity the newborn and her parents.

The body, reportedly that of an infant less than one month old, was found washed ashore at the beach by some persons over a week ago.
“The locals informed the police about the abandoned newborn. People did see that some dogs were eating parts of the body. Soon the body parts were taken to the GMC for post-mortem that confirmed animal bites,” said a police official speaking to Herald.
While the search for the parents of the baby is underway, Agassaim police have registered an offence under Section 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of Indian Penal Code against the accused who are yet to be identifed.
The police have so far been unsuccessful in tracing any person related to the deceased newborn. “The CCTV cameras fitted at certain places around the beach were not operational. We are looking for leads to crack the case. For now, we have asked the hospitals to submit us details of newborns of the last one month,” the police said.
With two police officers from the investigation team at Agassaim Police station being infected with COVID-19, the Old Goa police have been temporarily asked to take over the investigation.
The incident comes at a time when the nation is outraged over the gang-rape and murder of a young girl at Hathras in Uttar Pradesh.
