MARGAO: Patients visiting Hospicio hospital on Friday were forced to take extra care on account of slippery wet floors after water from the tiled roof portion started leaking and falling on the floor.
While both hospital staff and patients were inconvenienced, the hospital workers were the ones who had to clean up the messy floors to avoid a scenario where a patient walking in for treatment or to visit family or friend slips and has a fall.
While the health minister has given repeated assurances in the last month about the upkeep of Hospicio the government has yet to sort the basic infrastructure requirements.
Buckets were placed on the floor to collect the dripping water as there was only so much mops could take care off.
It may be recalled that two months ago the district hospital plunged into darkness after the generator would not start and there was no power.
There were similar power fluctuations in the city due to the heavy rainfall on Friday night affecting the services at the hospital.
Vivek Naik who had visited the hospital in the day expressed shock at seeing water everywhere on the floor and outside the operation theatre questioned how things had gone from bad to worse instead of seeing signs of improvement.
The situation worsened in the evening as there was no respite from the rain and citizens drenched in rain and braving the stormy weather were not comforted by the pathetic conditions at South Goa’s premier public government hospital.
