PORVORIM: Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) on Thursday highlighted the issue of bad road conditions in their respective constituencies and demanded restoration of the roads at the earliest so as to give relief to the commuters.
Speaking during the discussions on demands that also included Public Works Department (PWD) Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said, “Innocent people are losing lives due to poor road engineering and in the absence of crash barriers. Barricades of age-old culverts are in dilapidated condition and need urgent safety measures. Minister for PWD needs to look into the issue of proper signages, zebra crossing and painting of speed breakers.”

He pointed out that the quality of National Highway road from Guirim to
Patradevi stretch is in pathetic condition and added that it needed urgent improvement so as to prevent road accidents.
“There is a need for a flyover at Peddem junction. People are losing their lives every day,” Lobo added.
Velim MLA Cruz Silva said that substandard works undertaken by contractors are resulting in bad roads. “The government ought to check the quality of road infrastructure works,” he said.
Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo brought to the notice of the House that the work of converting the existing overhead power line into an underground cabling system by the government has caused severe damage to roads across Siolim. She said that road stretches in different areas are in bad shape as the roads cut for laying cables have not been restored by the authorities concerned.
Lobo urged the government to restore the roads at the earliest so as to give relief to the commuters.
