VASCO: The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) authorities have advised all HoDs to explore possibility of reducing expenditure including zero overtime in their departments and to come out with a plan to rationalise manning scale to avoid overtime due to the financial crisis it is faced with.
This is a second such step taken by MPT as earlier it has issued a circular announcing the deduction of various allowances and discontinuation of various schemes, which were applicable to its employees.
The Port Trust administration had even reduced the cafeteria allowance of the officers by 25 percent and had also deferred the balance payment besides some amendments in VDA/Dearness relief payable to employees and pensioners
In its fresh circular, MPT stated, “During the meeting with HoDs, FA and CAO have expressed concern about precarious financial condition of the Port consequent to stoppage of iron ore and coal handling. They also stated that even payment of salary will be difficult from this month onwards. Hence, there is a crisis situation, which needs to be addressed by exercising stringent austerity measures and cut down of non-essential expenditure and realisation of revenues/dues. In view of above, it is hereby advised to all HoDs to explore possibility of reducing expenditure including zero overtime in their departments and to come out with plans for rationalise manning scale for avoiding OT,” circular states.
Secretaries were also instructed to call for a meeting with Union immediately to discuss the issue.
