PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that the State government will come up with a new rule wherein if any rent-a-car or its driver is involved in any fatal accident, then both the driver and the owner would be arrested.
He was speaking at the 43rd anniversary celebrations of the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited in the city.

Sawant said everyone, including tourists driving or riding rent-a-car or rent-a-bike in the State, must follow traffic rules. The government is serious about the safety of its citizens. Accidents leading to deaths are taking place due to rash and rough driving. We have to overcome this situation with disciplined driving and by following traffic rules, he added.
“Everyone must follow traffic rules strictly. Now people are indulging in rough and rash driving. Drinking and driving will not be allowed. Those, who give bikes or cars on rent, should know that if their vehicles or those driving them, are found involved in accidents, then both, the driver and the vehicle owner, will be arrested. The vehicle owner will have to take responsibility,” the Chief Minister said.
Taking note of taxi drivers disturbing those driving taxis run by Goa Miles, a multi-mode cab aggregator, the Chief Minister warned that the government will not tolerate it.
“Some hotel owners have written to police that some taxi drivers are harassing them. There is no need to have a fight with the drivers of taxis run by Goa Miles. I will not tolerate it. An individual has the right to decide which mode of transport he or she wants to use. It should not be dictated by the taxi drivers,” he said.
