RAIA: Playing a spirited game, hosts Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim shocked seasoned Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, 4-3 via tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of Cavelossim Panchayat Cup football tournament organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim, on Sunday.
In a match, which never rose to great heights, there were few scoring chances created by both the teams. Elroy Barreto and Shubert Colaco of Don Bosco Oratory had a decent game where they gave a number of high passes to forwards Edison Dias and Mario Miranda but they were tightly marked by SCC Cavelossim defenders Wilbur Matos and Cleston Fernandes.
SCC Cavelossim too had their chances but unnecessary dribbling by Sanford Fernandes and Estibeiro brothers made it very easy for Don Bosco Oratory to control of the midfield. However, it was SCC Cavelossim who a had a golden opportunity to score and win the match but Sanford was a bit slow to tap the ball in a goal mouth cross by Raju Cardozo.
As both teams failed to score during the regulation time, tie-breaker was enforced in which Darren Estibeiro, Christbern Estibeiro and Delzan Passanha scored for SCC Cavelossim, while Roque Borges, Hanslum Furtado and Clift Barreto were on target for Don Bosco Oratory but Alfred Noronha and Edison Dias muffed their spot kicks enabling hosts SCC Cavelossim to enter the semi-finals.
Delzan Passanha of Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim was presented the man-of-the-match by Iris Passanha, panch of VP Cavelossim.
