The London Fashion week is one of the important platforms to showcase trends in that industry. New stars emerge every season. To be able to showcase it means one is either doing very good work or has been marked as one to watch. Goa’s very own Aruna Goud was the only Indian representative at the four day affair last month.
This has been a remarkable journey for Aruna. For one who was trained in engineering, she decided it was not the path for her. Her journey commenced in 2016. She said the engineering path was taken due to pressure from her parents. It became very obvious one year into life in that industry that this was not what she wanted. She said “I studied engineering under pressure from my parents but I rectified the mistake and changed streams. She studied a diploma course in fashion. And her journey in the world of fashion commenced.
Her drive and talent was shown when she managed to showcase her talent at the Cannes Film Festival. Her design adorned Natasha Costa, French actress which caught the attention of people who keep a track of developments in that industry. When the opportunity to attend the London Fashion Week came around, she applied.
Aruna said” There is a format to apply to be part of the fashion week. I had to send them the design and all the possible designs done in the past. I also send them details backed by drawings and photographs of works done in the past along with photographs of the dress worn by Natasha Costa”.
Speaking of her collection at London Fashion week she showcased her Indo-western pleated gowns which are for party wear and in Pastel colors. She played with the Georgette fabric to make my designs so delicate and fine. Her showstopper was a New York model.” Fashions Finest offers a diverse and inclusive platform for the UK and international graduates and emerging designers and one of the most sought-after shows.
Her unique collection certainly caught the attention of the fashion world at the London Fashion Week at St John’s Church Hyde Park. She was the only Indian designer who showcased her collection, Goa-based Aruna Goud without a doubt caught everyone’s attention with her unique collection. An Indian magazine which is considered number one in London will be stocking her designs.
She will be showcasing her designs at the New York Fashions Week in September and before that she will be showcasing her designs next month at the NFT event which is a Digital Fashion Show. The designs will be converted into a digital format and will be up for sale.
Asked if she intended to move over to the west and work she said she loves staying in India and working. She said she loves Goa and calls it her second home. “I came here to host the first edition of the India Glam Fashion Week and moved soon after. After coming in from a big city, Goa is peaceful and I’m always close to nature, she says.” The journey hasn’t been easy but ‘I always believe in myself which drives me till here.’
One can only wish her all the very best.
