Amid rising speculation, the department has clarified that a widely circulated message claiming the deadline has been extended to September 30 is completely false. The fake notice, shared on social media and messaging platforms, falsely stated that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had granted more time for filing.

In its advisory, the department urged taxpayers to ignore such misleading messages and rely solely on official updates from its verified handle @IncomeTaxIndia.
