The spotlight ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ final home game of IPL 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad has firmly shifted to one question — will MS Dhoni feature at Chepauk on Monday?
Speculation around Dhoni’s availability has dominated discussions ever since his unusual training session on the eve of the match. Fans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium closely followed every movement as the CSK legend walked out for practice, fuelling hopes of a return to the playing XI.
However, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin appeared to dismiss the possibility with a cryptic social media post that quickly went viral.
“Not happening today! In 2027? Maybe. Don’t think any batting changes will happen. Akeal Hosein in?” Ashwin wrote ahead of CSK’s clash against SRH.
The post immediately triggered intense debate among fans, many interpreting it as a sign that Dhoni may once again miss out. The comments also reignited conversations about the veteran wicketkeeper’s future with the franchise.
Adding to the speculation, CSK’s official social media handles urged supporters to remain in the stadium after the game for the traditional “Lap of Honour.” The announcement led to widespread retirement rumours online.
Dhoni’s match-eve routine further intensified curiosity. According to reports, the CSK icon arrived for practice around 6:30 PM and spent nearly 30 minutes batting in the indoor nets. He reportedly faced throwdowns and spinners while clearing the ropes multiple times before heading back to the dressing room.
Despite injury concerns limiting his appearances this season, Dhoni’s possible return continues to dominate IPL conversations, with Chepauk expected to witness an emotionally charged atmosphere.
