The vandalised plinth of the iconic statue, which depicts Gandhi in a meditative seated posture, was discovered marked with disturbing slogans.

“The High Commission of India in London is deeply saddened and strongly condemns the shameful act of vandalism of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Tavistock Square,” the mission stated, urging swift action against those responsible.
