India marked a historic leap in semiconductor self-reliance with the unveiling of the Vikram-32 processor chip, the country’s first indigenously developed 32-bit microprocessor. Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented the chip to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Semicon India 2025 in Ahmedabad.
Built at ISRO’s Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali, the Vikram chip is designed to withstand the harsh environments of spaceflight. The first batch, Vikram 3201, was successfully tested onboard PSLV-C60, proving its reliability for future launch missions.
