PANJIM: In all 100 health workers took part in the dry run organised at three government and one private hospital in the State on Saturday to assess the preparedness of the State’s health sector for the COVID-19 vaccination once the vaccine rolls-out, which is expected this month.

The vaccine mock drill, part of nation-wide drive, was conducted at Urban Health Centre, Panjim, Public Health Centre, Aldona and Corlim and a private hospital, with 25 health workers, each, being administered as dummy vaccines. The wards in the hospitals were divided into three sections-registrations, vaccination centre and observation rooms. The health workers, whose details are registered on the COVID portal, took part.
Speaking to media persons about the trial run, Health Secretary IAS Amit Satija said the entire exercise of dry run except live vaccination was undertaken successfully by the team of Directorate of Health Services (DHS).
“The dry run of vaccination is held to check on the preparedness and planning including prerequisites of the vaccine introduction as per the operational guidelines, vaccine and logistics mobilisation at session sites and dry run of vaccination beneficiary and reporting,” Satija said.
The secretary informed that a detail report will be submitted to the Union Ministry of Health.
Responding to a question, Satija said the State has sufficient number of cold storage facility to preserve vaccine and is also in process of procuring 40 ice land coolers from Government of India. “The State is fully prepared for rollout of COVID-19 vaccine,” he said.
In the first phase, health workers would receive the vaccine. The health workers details have been uploaded on the COVID portal. The nationwide rehearsal was to understand the best way to administer the vaccine and plug loopholes in logistics and training.
