PANJIM: As the 108 employees indefinite strike against the private service provider GVK EMRI entered the third day, employees have alleged that the ambulance services are operating illegally, while the GVK dispatch desk has complained of hoax calls.
In a letter to the Director of Transport, the 108 Ambulance Service Employees Union has claimed that ambulances functioning in the State are run by non Goan drivers who have no proper licences.
“We demand action…against the management of GVK EMRI for not registering itself as a road transport undertaking,” failing which the employees have threatened to “take action against the department of transport.”
Meanwhile, the dispatch desk at the GVK EMRI have complained of multiple hoax calls, suspecting the hand of striking employees, leading to what they call a “blocking of ambulances.”
“At 1:45 pm, Thursday, the dispatch received an emergency call from Azad Maidan, of someone complaining of loose motion. On sending a paramedic to the location, the person refused to accept the medication provided and refused to enter the ambulance and be transported to the hospital,” a GVK official stated.
