18 illegal scrap yards have been shut, AG informs HC

The State Government has initiated action against operation of illegal scrap yards and 18 illegal scrap yards have been closed-down, Advocate General Subodh Kantak told the Court on Wednesday.
The High Court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a student Jatin Ramaiya that complained about illegal operation of illegal scrap yards in Ponda.
Ponda Municipality has also initiated action illegal scrap yards. When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday morning the Court asked the State Government to file an affidavit stating what action has been taken against illegal scrap yards in each taluka.
Next hearing in the matter has been fixed for March 3.
