CALANGUTE: Goa’s beaches were packed with locals and tourists ushering in the New Year, but the celebrations turned perilous as the state-appointed lifesaving agency, responded to 21 incidents in the last week of 2024.

A total of 30 people were rescued, including two triple rescues, five double rescues, and 14 single rescues. In addition, Drishti Marine reunited 18 missing persons, including 17 children, with their families and administered first aid to 11 individuals.
Key rescue highlights included a triple rescue involving three men from Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. Other rescues at Palolem included a woman swept by waves and a kayaker who fell off his vessel.
At Mandrem beach a triple rescue saved three individuals, including a 17-year-old and a 66-year-old from Kyrgyzstan. Additional rescues involved a Russian woman and a 37-year-old man from Hyderabad.
At Calangute beach lifesavers carried out two double rescues, saving individuals from Rajasthan and Bangalore. A single rescue involved a 21-year-old from Andhra Pradesh.
At Candolim beach lifesavers responded to multiple rescues, including an elderly British tourist and several others from Karnataka, Haryana, and Bangalore.
Additional rescues took place at Agonda, Arambol, Colva, Baga, Majorda, and Vagator beaches, with incidents involving swimmers and inebriated individuals.
Lifesavers urged beachgoers to heed safety warnings and be cautious when entering the water.
