A visibly agitated RDA Minister, Churchill Alemao on Monday ordered the suspension of four RDA employees and demanded the immediate transfer of Project Director, Melvyn Vaz after a surprise inspection of the RDA office, South this morning.
Project Director, North G P Pilarnekar told Herald that the four employees were served memos seeking explanation on the queries raised by the Minister during the surprise check.
Alemao made his presence felt at the RDA office, housed at the Junta quarters, Pajifond this morning and to his surprise found that a peon had put three signatures on the attendance register. After questioning the Head clerk, Vaishali Naik, the RDA Minister issued directions for the suspension of the Head Clerk as well as the Peon Ramdas Naik. Besides, instructions were issued for the suspension of LDCs Madhuri Bhandari and Teja Naik.
An agitated Alemao called up the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat from the RDA office and demanded the immediate transfer of Melvyn Vaz on grounds that the office has no control and supervision over the staff. He has also called for the transfer of Prashant Shirodkar from the RDA Office.
“RDA works in south Goa has suffered over the last three years, while North Goa has progressed because of the officers and the staff. I will not tolerate any indiscipline amongst the employees in the future”, Alemao warned.
He pointed out that funds allocated for RDA works in South Goa have hit a block because inefficiency of the staff and warned the surprise raids of the RDA office would continue in the future.
“The four employees should be suspended atleast for 14 days. They just come for duty, sign on the register and go home. I have come to know that nearly 50 per cent of the staff is not found in the office during evening hours”, Alemao said, adding “These employees are paid salaries from the tax payer’s money. Forget about eight hours, they should work at least for six hours a day”,
As far as the project Director is concerned, Alemao said “we don’t know where he is. He cannot handle the affairs. He has sanctioned leave for the employees during Ganesh festival. How will the office run if all are given the leave?”, he asked
