Fisheries and Labour Minister Avertano Furtado was the chief guest. Damodar Naik former Fatorda MLA and Ravindra Bhavan chairman was the guest of honour while Sharmila Fernandes, grand daughter of Pai Tiatrist was the special guest.
On the occasion five tiatrists were awarded life time achievement award for their contribution to tiatr for the year 2016.
The tiatrists felicitated were Annie Quadros, Anthony San, Maestro John De Nuvem, Comedian Hortencio Pereira and Late Meena Leitao.
Speaking on the occasion, Avertano informed that 10 thousand square metres of comunidade land has been given to Tiatr Academy of Goa to build a Tiatr Bhavan at Navelim. He assured that he would try to hike the pension amount awarded to Tiatrists by the government under the Art and Culture scheme.
Meena Leitao’s daughter accepted the award.
Annie Quadros demanded that the monthly pension being awarded to the tiatrists be enhanced. She said the pension amount of Rs 2,500 was an injustice to tiatrists who dedicate their life for tiatr.
