PANJIM: In all 57 candidates have filed nominations from 16 wards in 11 panchayats for the by-polls scheduled on July 1.
On Tuesday, the State Election Commission received 66 nominations from 57 candidates from 16 wards, which were caught up in litigation over delimitation and reservation before the High Court.
The scrutiny of the nominations will be taken up on Wednesday, while Thursday is set for withdrawals. The election code of conduct is in force for the 11 panchayats, where counting is scheduled on July 2.
The eleven panchayats includes Bastora (Ward I), Anjuna-Caisua (Ward I), Penha-de-Franca (Ward VIII & IX), Curca-Bambolim (Ward I), Merces (Ward VI), Advalpal (Ward V), Betki-Khandola (Ward V & VI), Nuvem (Ward X), Betalbatim (Ward III, V, VII), Chandor (Ward V) and Sancoale (Ward V & VI).
The new village panchayat body of 175 panchayats has already been elected.

12 file papers in Salcete
MARGAO: One of the 12 candidates who have filed their nominations for the by-elections in five wards of three villages in Salcete will be declared elected unopposed while another is expected to withdraw his nominations.
On the last date of filing nominations today Leticia Maria Miranda filed her papers for the ward No. 3 of Betalbatim that is reserved for OBC Lady. As she is the only candidate to file the nominations she will be declared elected unopposed.
In ward No, 5 of Betalbatim reserved for OBC, three candidates are in the fray namely Silvia Manelina Pereira, Vincent Rosario Fernandes and Santana Fernandes, while two candidates Judas Tadeu Rebelo and Inacio Carvalho will contest in ward No 7 again reserved for OBC.
In ward No 10 of Nuvem which is a general ward, four candidates will be contesting: Peter Fernandes, Milagrina Colaco, Bernardo Fernandes and Tribune Carvalho.
Three candidates have filed their nominations for ward No 5 of Chandor Cavorim panchayat. They are Andrew Antonio Peixoto who was a member of the panchayat during the last term; Raymond D’Cruz who had filed his nomination last time around when the elections were countermanded and Noby Joe D’Cunha who is expected to withdraw as Raymond is a close family friend.
