MARGAO: A day after the unprecedented sealing of the Colva hotels, South Goa district authorities have unsealed six of the eight hotels and restaurants on Saturday.
The de-sealing of the hotel establishment comes after the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) issued an order late Friday evening revoking the previous sealing order. Accordingly, Margao Deputy Collector Sangeeta Naik upon orders of the District Collector directed the Joint Mamlatdar to unseal six out of the eight establishments which were sealed on Friday. Of these, the authorities had unsealed Silver Sands hotel last night itself upon a stay granted by the High Court.
Sources in the GSPCB told Herald that the Board took the decision to revoke the sealing order vis-a-vis the restaurants and small hotels after they submitted the compliance reports on the sewage disposal. Sources in the Board further informed that the Board also issued 2-3 of these establishments the consent to operate after these complied with mandatory formalities.
Meanwhile, president of the Goa Democratic Forum Dayanand Narvekar slammed the government for virtually throwing the tourists on the streets of Colva on Friday. “What is this government upto? Do they want tourists to visit Goa or to leave with bitter memories?” he questioned.
