OLD GOA, AUG 10
Old Goa Police on Tuesday rescued seven children moving near the Karmali Railway Station to board a train proceeding towards Hubli. Six children are in the age group of 11-14 years while one was 17 years old and all are reportedly from Hubli.
Old Goa rushed to the station after they were informed by the counterparts posted at the station that the children were seen moving around without any adult accompanying them.
An Old Goa police team led by PI Corte later shifted the children to Apna Ghar at Merces.
According to PI Corte, all seven kids had arrived in the State two days ago in search of jobs but as they were unable to find any job, they tried to return to Hubli.
As no adult accompanied the seven children, railway officials did not allow the children to board the train and in turn, informed the police posted at the Karmali Railway Station.
“As there is a possibility that the children could be kidnapped and forced into child labour, we thought the best option would be to keep them at Apna Ghar. At the same time, we have alerted our counterparts at Hubli, so that they can locate the parents of the children and return them to their families,” PI Corte said.
