PANJIM: Eighty percent of mining lease holders have completed the digital global positioning survey (DGPS) of the lease boundaries, as the deadline to conduct of the survey ended June 15.
The mines department official confirmed that the remaining 20 percent lease holders would completed these surveys by July end.

The Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) had asked leaseholders to conduct such a survey after it was noticed in the Justice M B Shah Commission report that several mine owners have violated boundaries and encroached outside their leases.
The department via a circular, last month, had directed all mining leaseholders in the State to conduct DGPS by mid-June with empanelled agencies, which will ascertain the boundaries and violations by mining operators.
The survey had to be completed by June 15, 2013 and the cost has to be borne by the respective mining leaseholders, the circular had directed.
