A week on, Pajifond residents await road restoration

The pipeline has been repaired and water supply resumed; however, no authority is willing to speak on why the road is not restored

MARGAO: The road that was dug up to repair a damaged water pipeline exactly a week ago at Pajifond-Margao, is still awaiting restoration till date.
While the damaged water pipeline was repaired and water supply restored to the residents of Pajifond, the excavated road leading to the government Junta quarters has not been restored till date for reasons best known to the PWD officials.
Even as residents of the Junta quarters are demanding to know the reasons for the huge delay in the restoration of the road, PWD Assistant Engineer Vijai Kudchadkar was not available for comment to shed light on the unprecedented delay.
Ward Councillor Raju Naik said he has been trying to contact officials of the PWD water supply as well as sewerage since the last two days, but in vain. “People from the Junta quarters have been left inconvenienced by the failure of the PWD to restore the road. I have received umpteen number of complaints from the residents over the delay in the road restoration work. The PWD water supply had repaired the damaged pipeline a week ago. Now, no one can tell us whether the road has not been restored in view of the damage to the sewerage line,” he said.
Residents have now called for the immediate intervention of the District Collector Dr Sachin Shinde and local Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai to make the PWD take up the road restoration work on urgent basis. “We will have no option other than to stage a rasta roko. The residents are not concerned whether the delay is on account of the failure by the PWD water supply or the sewerage department or any other department. We only want the road to be restored immediately,” remarked agitated residents, demanding immediate action.
