MARGAO: In a surprise development, Margao Municipal Councillor Avinash Shirodkar has resigned from the primary membership of the party, accusing the Chief Minister for neglecting the Bahujan Samaj and Margao constituency.
After tendering his resignation to the party leadership in Panjim, Avinash, who was elected on the Chief Minister-backed municipal panel, said the Chief Minister could not provide jobs to the youth from the Bahujan Samaj. “I had approached the Chief Minister for jobs for the unemployed youth from the Bahujan Samaj, but we were only given promises by Kamat”, he said.
Shirodkar, who is also the president of the Salcete Taluka unit of the Bandari Samaj, said the city has not witnessed much development in recent years though Margao was represented by the Chief Minister. “The Chief Minister took the Bahujan Samaj for granted and ignored their demands”, he said, and accused the Chief Minister for doing nothing to protect the Costa Grounds for the citizens of Aquem.
“I had tabled a resolution demanding acquisition of the Costa Grounds before elections. This has not been fulfilled till date. Moreover, the Margao municipality is not functioning to the expectations of the citizens”, he added.
Replying to a question, Shirodkar said he would disclose his future political plans after consulting his workers and supporters.
