CALANGUTE: Shareholders of Calangute Comunidade have decided to challenge the arbitrary decision of the government to acquire huge portion of land to set up Solid Waste Management plant at Saligao/Calangute plateau.
This was decided at an extra-ordinary meeting of the shareholders of the Calangute Comunidade.
During the meeting, the shareholders opined that there was no need to lease huge portion of land to set up 100 tonnes capacity plant at the site.
The shareholders were taken aback with the arbitrary decision of the State government for invoking Section 4 and 17 to acquire the land reportedly without taking the Calangute Comunidade into confidence.
The shareholders were apprehensive with the decision of the State government to acquire huge portion of land (1.38 lakh sq mtrs) without their consent.
The shareholders opined that the land should not be leased to set up garbage treatment plant for the entire coastal belt, but for Calangute village only. A resolution to oppose and challenge the land acquisition process and approach the court, if need be, was adopted at the meeting.
The shareholders have no objection for setting up a plant exclusively for the Calangute village at its own plot of land.
The meeting was chaired by President Agostinho Proenca in the presence of Attorney Suhas Naik and Treasurer Savio D’Souza.
