CALANGUTE: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has accused former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes of dragging his name in the road work controversy at Escrivao Vaddo, Candolim, without him being a party to it.
While Lobo claimed that it was through his intervention that the road work was finally completed at Candolim, Fernandes reiterated that Lobo was directly or indirectly involved in stopping the road works at Candolim.
The private road being constructed at Escrivao Vaddo was completed much to the relief of locals and Candolim Panchayat after BDO had applied brakes following a complaint by a local. The locals were reportedly able to complete the task following the intervention of the Calangute MLA in the matter who allegedly brokered a truce between the warring factions.
“I convinced the plot owner and complainant to withdraw his complaint as the road was taking shape in the interest of locals,” Lobo told Herald.
“The complainant had retaliated following the stoppage of private road at Camottim Vaddo, Candolim, which was stopped by Candolim Panchayat in spite of having NOCs from various competent authorities including the CRZ and inaugurated by the chief minister. I have requested Candolim Deputy Sarpanch Lourenco Fernandes and other panchas to tar the road at Camottim Vaddo,” added Lobo.
When contacted, Agnelo Fernandes however reiterated the involvement of Calangute MLA Lobo. “It was Lobo who directed Calangute Police to the site and stopped the work carried out by the locals in their private properties.”
“It is a fact that Lobo was directly or indirectly involved in the stoppage of road works at Candolim,” maintained Fernandes.
