The police and polling officials were busy on their toes on late Saturday night as allegations and counter allegations kept pouring in from rival candidates over distribution of money and goodies.
To check the movement of miscreants around the Municipal wards, the police later conducted a nakabandi at sensitive points, which continued later into the night.
DySP Umesh Gaonkar said nakabandi was conducted at sensitive locations at Margao as well as Cuncolim to maintain a strict check on the movement of people during the night.
“The nakabandi has commenced from 9 pm. The police have been issued directions to act firmly against anti-social elements fomenting trouble”, he said and added that the police has strengthened their presence at places where there is sizeable concentration of migrants. “Even in Cuncolim, we have intensified patrolling at Pairya bandh and near the Industrial estate”, DySP Gaonkar said.
