Amankar raises taxi, transport and jobs for locals issue in Assembly

Sankalp Amonkar raised several concerns related to transport, taxi operations and employment for locals while speaking during the budget discussion in the Goa Legislative Assembly on March 12.

The Mormugao MLA alleged that the Goa Miles counter at Dabolim Airport was directly booking taxis, which he said was affecting the livelihood of nearly 350 local black-and-yellow taxi operators. He also demanded action against alleged illegal taxi operations and called for steps to safeguard the interests of local drivers.

Amonkar further urged the government to expedite the long-pending Vasco bus stand project and improve irregular shuttle bus services from Vasco to Panaji and Margao.

He also raised concerns over rising unemployment in Goa and claimed that locals were rarely recruited in private industries, urging the government to introduce provisions ensuring job reservation for Goan youth.
