PANJIM: The tourism department’s ambitious development plan for Colva whose showpiece is the viewing tower, got a fillip Tuesday with local authorities according the green signal for the over Rs 20 crore project.
The plan proposes to include development of three areas which includes Betalbatim, Colva and Benaulim and connect this stretch with a pathway which will be set up 200 meters away from the high tide line.
Other highlights of the tourism development plan include beautification, parking facilities and changing rooms almost every 500 meters along the beach pathway connection from Betalbatim to Benaulim.
Sources have told Herald that the initial proposal for a viewing tower had been struck down by the CRZ authorities. This time however they made modifications to the plan by reducing the height of the viewing tower and will include a restaurant.
Likewise improvement of infrastructure, lighting, gardens, roads and toilet facilities are included in the plan. The tourism ministry proposes to begin tendering works as soon as it has all the approvals in hand.
Presently works are also on to complete the tourism development plan for Baga.
Officials in the tourism ministry say that it is trying to develop as many beach belts especially those which attract tourists in large numbers, in addition to providing other basic facilities at those beaches along the coastline.
