Ambulance catches fire, lucky escape for CHC workers

Three employees of Community Health Centre (CHC) Curchorem had a lucky escape, after the ambulance in which they were travelling caught fire near Ambedkar Chowk, Curchorem, on Monday at about 1.30 pm.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the ambulance (GA-01-G7685) was returning to CHC Curchorem after dropping a patient at Hospicio in Margao.
On reaching near Ambedkar Chowk, ambulance driver Justin Fernandes noticed some smoke from the engine. He immediately stopped the vehicle and asked the two women employees to alight from the ambulance.
Fernandes tried to disconnect the wire of the battery, but the ambulance suddenly caught fire. Curchorem fire brigade team rushed to the site and extinguished the fire, but the vehicle was damaged.
