BICHOLIM: The delayed monsoon has had an adverse effect on the Anjunem dam, a crucial source of water supply to Bicholim taluka as the levels have fallen drastically.
The decline in water level has had a negative effect on the Valvanti in Bicholim and alarm bells are already ringing in the taluka.

It the dry spell persists then situation could be grave for the taluka as the problem of water scarcity may arise, say sources.
Supply from Tillari dam is still on and plans to use this water at various other places by WRD are being pondered upon. There are plans to supply water from the Padose plant in a limited manner. The plates at bandharas were removed due to expected arrival of the monsoon but have been put back at Assonora, Sankhali and Bicholim to reserve the remaining water.
Amthane dam has water storage that would last for 30 more days. MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye has stated that he has discussed the situation with officials concerned. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has also directed officials to plan the water management of Tillari and Amthane dams.
