MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal panchayat on Monday inspected the housing complex “Ramnagri” along with officials of the Curtorim Health Centre following several complaints of overflowing sewage from the complex.
The inspecting team which included panchayat secretary and panchayat members observed the overflowing septic tanks at the complex flowing into the adjacent fields and were totally covered with sewage.
In fact many people who had gone for the inspection had their noses covered due to the stink.
Freddy Travasso, a villager and one of the complainants demanded that action be taken and added that similar inspections were held in the past but with no relief to the people.
“Avinash Borkar has left this curse for people of Sao Jose de Areal and pointed out that Julio Monteiro when he was the sarpanch had tried to address this problem but subsequently nobody has bothered including the panchayat or MLA,” Freddy alleged.
He said Julio had managed to lay the infrastructure to connect the Ramnagri septic tanks to the sewerage network but the same has not materialised till date.
“I hope at least now before the onset of monsoons the sewerage connection will be carried out and we will get some relief,” he said.
