MARGAO: Residents of Sao Jose de Areal on Tuesday took to the streets, blocking the road to protest against the delay by the Water Resources department to clear mud left on the road after excavation.
The villagers took to the streets since the mud was lying was causing obstruction to vehicular traffic on the road. The mound of mud has been lying on the road for three days and the villagers finally closed the road after repeated requests to clear the mud proved futile.
The Water Resources department has laid an underground pipeline by cutting the road to connect the irrigation field canal, but had left the mud on the road, causing dust pollution and hampering traffic flow.
A resident Michael Travasso said the villagers had no option than to block the road as requests made to the contractor to clear and restore the road went abegging.
Sources said that the district authorities rushed to the spot as a precautionary measure and later directed the WRD officials to get the mud clear without any delay.
