Says he is confident of proving majority

MARGAO: Emboldened by Berta’s victory in the vice-Chairperson’s polls, the anti-Arthur group has stepped up its campaign for the ouster of the Municipal Chairperson.
Arthur, on the other hand, has dared his opponents to table a no confidence motion, saying he is ready to face the motion.
Tuesday’s election results emboldened the anti-Arthur group which immediately disclosed its plans to dislodge the Chairperson from office. Outgoing vice-Chairperson Pratima Coutinho said the 12-member group would now start the process to get the Chairperson removed from the chair. “Arthur refused to step down on moral grounds after completing 11 months in office on grounds that he enjoys a majority. Today, he has seen that his group is reduced to a minority. Either he should step down gracefully or the 12-member group would have no option than to table a no confidence motion and get him out of office”, Pratima said.
The beleaguered Municipal Chairperson however has no plans to quit office. While ruling out resignation, he dared his opponents to table the no confidence motion. “I challenged them to vote me out of office. They were saying my group has only five members but today’s election showed we are now eight members. By the time a no-confidence motion is tabled, the number of my group would swell to 15”, he said, while asserting he faces no threat to his chair. “This chair is not my personal property. When the time comes, I will leave”, he added.
