MARGAO: The Assolna gram sabha on Sunday while approving erection of a mobile tower in the village also decided to constitute a committee to survey the migrants living in the village following the suicide committed by one migrant at Taricode recently.
The panchayat informed the people that they had written to landowners who had given their premises on rent to migrants to get the migrants registered with the police and give them a copy of the tenant verification form.
While pointing out that the landowners have been given time till 5th November to comply with the request Sarpanch Xavier Almeida said the committee if necessary will be constituted after that date with the panchayat deciding upon thematter.
The gram sabha today decided that the panchayat should issue NOC to Indus Tower to set up a mobile tower at a place near Orel which is away from residential area. Incidentally around a year back the gram sabha had objected to issuing a NOC to the same company as they then proposed to set up the tower in residential area.
However, now the company has given a fresh proposal where the tower is sought to be erected away from residential area and hence the gram sabha decided to permit it.
The gram sabha asked the Panchayat to follow up with the Collector to take action against the illegal kiosks erected in the market place and most of which are used to accept matka bets. The panchayat had complained to the Cuncolim Police about this but no action has been taken as yet.
The mamlatdar has undertaken a study of the illegal kiosks in the market and submitted his report. Many of the gaddas were given permission for movable hand carts wherein they were supposed to take away the carts in the evening, but they have made them permanent shops now.
The villagers asked the panchayat to write to the collector along with the report of the mamlatdar and ask for prompt action to be taken against the illegalities.
