MARGAO: Resident of Varca, Nazario Pinto, on Monday demanded to know the criteria adopted by the Delhi-based Human Rights panel to bestow on former PWD minister, Churchill Alemao, the Mass Leader of the Country Award.
Addressing the media, Pinto said he has asked the rights panel to withdraw the award given to Churchill failing which he has threatened to ask the Central government to wind up the NGO.
Pinto further demanded to know how Churchill can be declared as mass leader of the country when he had lost his deposit in the Lok Sabha poll. “I fail to understand the criteria adopted to declare Churchill as mass leader of the country when he could not save his deposit in the election,” Pinto said, while referring to the PWD case pending against the former PWD minister. “I will write to the Central government, the Human Rights Commission and Social Justice to take action against the rights panel which has given the award to Churchill if it is not withdrawn within 15 days,” he said.
Meanwhile, the former PWD Minister has said that he does not require a certificate from a person who has not won an election. “I have twice been the MP, besides MLA and minister. This man who is raising question on the award has lost all elections from Assembly to Zilla Panchayat to Panchayat polls,” Churchill added.
