Babush says will seek suspension of cops for atrocities on family

PANJIM, APRIL 26
Education Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate today said he would consult legal counsels and seek suspension of the policemen who have been prima facie found of committing gross misconduct and abuse of power by Police Complaints Authority (PCA) against his family, hours after the attack on the police station two years ago.
“I will meet the Chief Minister after consulting legal brains and seek justice for the police atrocities on my son and my family besides the attack on my residences”, Monserrate said.
He alleged that the attack on the police station was masterminded by some persons to implicate him. Asserting that there was no plan to attack the police station, Monserrate said it would have to be inquired as to who pelted stones at the police station.
After this incident, the policemen took law into their hands and went on a rampage, he said pointing out that they would not have done so without getting approval “from higher ups”.
“Now, let the police officials disclose to the investigating team who scripted the episode in the post-police station incident”, the Education minister demanded.
“I did lead the morcha but the backlash from the police men was unprecedented. We were booked for the attack on the police station but shouldn’t we get justice when the men-in-uniform take law into their hands?” Making it clear that he would strongly peruse the matter, he said “I will not rest till my son, wife and others who faced atrocities in the case, get justice”.
“What I am demanding is not as minister in the government but as an individual and representative of the people”, he clarified adding that the law must take its own course irrespective of who one is. “If these things could happen to an MLA, I can imagine what could be the fate of the common man”.
