MARGAO: South Goa district and sessions court granted bail to sports boat contractor Noby Baretto and operator Jaghbhandu Jaya Naik, who were arrested in connection with the Canaguinim boat tragedy.
The court also granted anticipatory bail to John D’Souza and Agnelo Basilio D’Cunha, both employees of a travel agency that had booked the deceased Russian tourists and Tevis Clay Aguiar, owner of the boat.
In the order, the judge directed the police to release both Baretto and Naik on a personnel bail bond of Rs 10,000 and a surety in like amount.
While grating anticipatory bail, the Judge directed D’souza, D’cunha and Aguiar to give individual bail bond of Rs 10,000 and a inividual surety of like amount with condition that all the five accused should not leave the state without the permission of court and to help in the investigation.
It may be recalled that on October 28, a water sports boat operator Jagbandhu Naik, a native of Orissa, took 14 adults and 3 children, all Russians for dolphin sighting from Mobor and went to Zorri beach at Canaginim, where a strong wave hit the boat overturning it and trapping three tourists under it, who unfortunately lost their lives. The others were rescued or swam ashore.
