BICHOLIM: The Govansh Raksha Abhiyaan has submitted a memorandum to the Bicholim Deputy Collector not to allow cow slaughter on the day of Id-ul-Zuha, on Saturday.

According to Abhiyaan President Hanumant Parab people slaughter cows during the Eid and they strongly oppose this move.
“We have submitted a memorandum to the deputy collector regarding the cow slaughter that takes place in Bicholim. Earlier, we had also submitted a similar memorandum to the Valpoi Deputy Collector as just two days back there was a raid on a slaughter house in Bicholim and they were informed by NGOs which shows that the authorities are not doing their duties,” Parab said.
“We see that neither the government nor the authorities have taken any preventive measures for the control of cow slaughter on Saturday,” he added.
“I had filed a petition in the High Court in 2013 and there is an order wherein the Court has given clear guidelines to the State government that except the State-run slaughter house there should be no other place where cow slaughter should be carried out,” Parab informed.
“We request the Muslim brethren not to do the bloodshed of animals but to pray in the house. Cow slaughter is banned and it is also hurting Hindu sentiments,” he said, accusing the BJP government for allowing slaughter house for bull and bovines which he termed as shame.
“We demand that they should not slaughter cows or bulls during Eid and even the government should monitor the situation. Cow is holy according to Hindu religion and everyone should see to it that they are not slaughtered,” Vice-President Kamlesh Bandekar claimed.
“We never came in their way when they were slaughtering goats but we would certainly oppose slaughter of cows. It is not that we are against any religion but even they should respect the sentiments of our religion,” Bandekar said.
He termed it as ‘mafiya’, where not only the businessmen who are selling the meat are involved but also politicians, officials from the Goa Meat Complex and it is a crime.
“People feel that once the Eid comes we start opposing but they are not aware about the work that we do throughout the year. Because of the recent raid it came to light that illegal beef is being openly sold by the roadside,” Bandekar explained.
