PANJIM: Family members of Fr Bismarque Dias have
expressed their displeasure over the lethargic attitude of the government in investigating
his death and are pinning their hopes on public pressure to get justice for the
priest and social worker.
“Needless to say, we have been disappointed
with the government’s apathy with the investigation but are now hopeful that
public pressure will result in a thorough investigation to the extent possible,
given that much time has passed and evidence may have been lost,” reads a statement
by Fr Bismarque’s brother Mario Dias.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mario said
they long to bring Fr Bismarque’s earthly remains home one last time and have a
proper farewell. “But we also know that besides being our brother and our mai’s
(mother’s) son, he was the son and brother of Jua (St Estevam) and Goa. Hence,
we have waited and will continue to wait patiently so that a proper
investigation may be carried out and justice may be served,” he stated.
The family has also thanked the people for
their spontaneous outpouring of love, solidarity and kindness in keeping vigil
for Fr Bismarque. “We have now reposed our faith in our advocates, Peter and
Caroline, to take all necessary steps to pursue a proper investigation. We
deeply appreciate the untiring work of well-wishers, in and out of Goa,
fighting for justice,” he added.
The family has also referred to Fr Bismarque’s
‘Kindness Manifesto’ for guidance. The manifesto states: ‘Be kind, live
kind… Be kind to yourself and you will be kind to others… Be kind to
yourself and you will be kind to a tree… Together we can make a difference.’
