The GSPCB had signed a memorandum of understanding with BITS, in June 2014, to foster collaboration and academic interaction between the two organizations. In the first phase, 28 staffers have been enrolled for the two year MTech programme. The course will be conducted through video conferencing. Apart from teaching various environmental norms, the programme will include research, assignment and field studies.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inaugural function Tuesday evening, GSPCB Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said that the programme will help in expanding the existing technologies, methods and measures to monitor and curb the air and water pollution levels in various industrial sectors.
“We will carry out research on the existing technology such as sewage treatment plant (STP) and other measures adopted to control the water and air pollution levels,” he said.
Earlier, BITS Pilani, Goa campus director K E Raman said that the programme would be conducted by using video conferencing technology. He said that the institute would think on introducing a subject on the legal issues on environment, in the future.
Director of the BITS campus programme G Sundar, and faculty members were also present.
