MARGAO: The Margao BJP camp appears upbeat ahead of the Lok Sabha poll. Just 10 days to go for polling on April 12, the party appears making determined efforts to make deep inroads in former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s bastion this time around.
Otherwise, just consider this: Chief Minister along with his deputy Francis D’Souza descended on Margao to guide the party booth committee members. This was Parrikar’s second interaction with Margao party workers in the last 10 days.
That’s not all. Party candidate Narendra Sawaikar has held around three-four meetings with party workers. Besides, party President Vinay Tendulkar has had a host of regular interactions wit the workers. Even local leader Rupesh Mahatme who had four rounds of closed-door meetings with partymen.
What’s significant to note is that while the BJP appears bracing up to launch a final onslaught in Margao with a public meeting on April 8, not much political activity is seen in the Congress camp.
No doubt, Digambar had accompanied party candidate Reginaldo Lourenco to the office of the Returning Officer, but the constituency has not witnessed any corner and workers meetings of the Congress since then.
Sources said the party leadership has alerted Digambar about BJP’s determined bid to storm his bastion, but he is believed to have promised to call a workers meeting a day ahead of the party’s public meeting at Lohia Maidan on April 9.
