BJP campaigns against price rise in St Cruz

MERCES, MARCH 28
The BJP’s signature campaign against price rise reached St Cruz constituency with BJP Vice President Keshav Prabhu leading the campaign along with prominent members of St Cruz BJP.
The party members gathered near the Santa Cruz market on Sunday at about 10 am and created awareness among the public on the substantial rise in prices of essential commodities during the tenure of the UPA government. The members also urged the public to support them in their campaign.
In a three-hour campaign, the members were able to collect over 500 signatures from the area.
Speaking to Herald, BJP Vice President Keshav Prabhu informed that the aim of Goa BJP is to collect a minimum 3 lakh signatures from the State.
“From St Cruz constituency, we have set a target of collecting a minimum of 4,000 signatures,” he said and added that their next campaign would be held on April 4 in Merces and Chimbel villages.
Prabhu also informed that the entire signature campaign in the State would be wound up before April 21, the day when the BJP would organise a massive protest in Delhi, before submitting a memorandum along with the signatures to the President.
The BJP members also distributed leaflets to the public which gave a comparative analysis of the affordable prices prevalent during the BJP government as against the rule of the UPA government, when prices of essential commodities have shot up beyond the reach of the common man.
The leaflet also showed how, despite producing excellent food grain crop, there has been a massive shortage in the market due to faulty policies of UPA government, which allowed export of essential commodities without taking into aspect the needs of the local market.
Alleging an export-import scam, the leaflet showed how the government exported 180 lakh tonnes of rice at Rs 19/kg, after procuring it at Rs 10 from the farmers. Subsequently, the prices in the local market rose sharply to Rs 30, thereby causing a considerable loss to the farmers and common man, but benefited the large companies and exporters.
Among the prominent members of the Santa Cruz BJP present for the campaign included Pramod Kamat, Girish Uskaikar, Merces ex-sarpanch Jyoti Palekar, Pramod Kamat, Uttara Bandodkar, Dina Bandodkar, Maya Sardessai, Tulsidas Madkaikar, Shahida Kittur and others.
