MAYEM: The body of Amar Shamba Surlakar (42) from Ambikanagar in Pale-Bicholim was recovered from the Mhadei River in Pale-Bicholim on Saturday morning, after extensive search operations.
It may be recalled that Surlakar had committed suicide by jumping into the Mhadei River at Pale on Friday. Some locals present at the site were unsuccessful in efforts to rescue Surlakar from the river.
Later, a search operation was conducted by fire personnel from Bicholim and Ponda which was continued till late Friday night.
On Saturday, divers from the Goa Naval Police were pressed into service and they managed to recover the body from the river. Bicholim PI Ninad Deulkar is investigating the case.
