PONDA: Four panch members, accompanied by a large number of Borim locals on Monday protested against the Panchayat Secretary for allegedly issuing an emergency house number for a small structure, which they claim did not even have a roof, and was not constructed properly. Borim is a 11-member panchayat.
The four panch members alleged that the Panchayat secretary was keeping them in the dark, regarding issues related to their ward. Vinay Parpati, the pancha from ward number 11 where the structure has been built, submitted his resignation over the issue and said he was not informed about what kind of structure it is, and why it was given a house number. “Although the power is vested with the secretary to issue house numbers after a site inspection, he should inform the panchayat members while making a decision,” he said. “People have elected me and I am answerable to them about any development taking place in this ward,” he said.

The other three panch members said that the structure was only the size of a small toilet, and did not even have roof over it. “It is also too close to the electricity pole. We demand action against the Panchayat Secretary for providing a house number for such a small structure,” they said.
The locals gathered at the spot also supported the four panchas and said that the room should not have been given a house number as they were not informed about it.
Panchayat Secretary Rupesh Halarnakar, when contacted, said he was travelling outside Goa and would discuss the issue later. The Sarpanch remained unavailable for comment as well.
