CORTALIM: Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar had demanded a full time secretary as the panchayat is unable to cope with the workload.
The panchayat, which caters to around 50000 residents, has been without a full time secretary for over four months.
“Apart from the routine works, there are RTI queries where the applicants have been demanding information of the last 15 years,” informed Borkar.
“How is it possible for a single secretary to look after two major panchayats ~ Sancoale and Chicalim ~ with such workload?” asked Borkar, who recalled that the panchayat had already written a letter to the Director of Panchayats demanding a full time secretary.
Borkar warned that if the director fails to depute a full-time secretary then the panchayat will have no other options but to seek the court’s intervention and further said that he would sent a final reminder to the director in this regard.
Mormugao BDO Manuel Baretto who also holds additional charge of Margao BDO-1 admitted that the panchayat had written a letter to that effect.
“But there is a shortage of secretaries and new appointments will be made. However, in the next round of transfers of secretaries, I am confident that Sancoale will get a full-time secretary who is an experienced one,” Baretto informed Herald.
The Director of Panchayats Narayan Sawant could not be contacted for comments in the matter.
