PANJIM: Former Santa Cruz MLA Victor Gonsalves has demanded that the extended timing of the school should be reverted to original timing as students will suffer in their studies as well as full set up of School-Students-Parents will be affected badly.
“The latest decision of the government to extend school timings by 30 minutes to 45 minutes will create more problems to the students who come early in the morning to school and go home late in the afternoon. The children whose classes end at around 2 pm will reach home around 2.30 pm to 3 pm, said Gonsalves.
He further said that parents who come to pick the children, specially the office goers, will be affected very badly, as the lunch break is usually from 1 pm to 2.30 pm and will not be able to collect the children from school. The hungry stomachs and tiredness will hamper studies.
The food intake of the child, who will be hungry from early morning to late afternoon will affect the health of the child he said and added that the meal supplied in the school does not cater to the entire diet and is not of good quality. He questioned whether the students could depend on this meal provided to them in the schools and whether the students and parents are willing to take the risk of consuming these meals which he alleged are often prepared in unhygienic environment.
Gonsalves also pointed that children today are facing added risks over the meals provided in the school. He also said they have to do plenty of homework and leaving from school late in the afternoon increases the risk due to lack of proper transport facilities.
Gonsalves hoped that the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will revert to the original school timing.
