PANJIM: A Police Sub Inspector attached with the Calangute police station Devyani Naik was on Tuesday suspended after an internal inquiry by a senior officer prima facie established she demanded bribe to settle a drugs case against some alleged accused.
The suspension order was issued by Deputy Inspector General of Police K K Vvyas. According to police sources, Naik was in constant touch with some persons who have an FIR registered against them at the police station demanding a bribe of Rs two lakh to let them off in the case, currently under investigation. Inquiry revealed that she was also in touch with some agents involved in the matter and that she had given her bank account number where the amount was supposed to be deposited in her favour.
