CANACONA: Local Congress workers at Canacona are reportedly planning to mobilise support from various tourism stakeholders to provide stiff opposition to the proposed airport at Mopa.
Canacona Block Congress Committee President Elvis Fernandes along with Congress District member and Councillor Simon Rebello have convened a public meeting of all the Canacona residents, especially the tourism and allied business stakeholders from the taluka, at the taxi stand in Palolem on February 28.
“Residents of Palolem, Patnem, Rajbag, Colomb, Canaguinim, Cabo-de-Rama, Agonda and South Goa are directly and indirectly dependent on tourism,” stated Fernandes in a press note.
“If the Mopa becomes a reality, there won’t be any tourists visiting Canacona and other parts of South Goa,” added Fernandes.
